During CABSAT 2022, Telecom Review had an exclusive with SpaceBridge CEO David Gelerman about their offer sustainability of equipment and investment. Founded in 1988, SpaceBridge is an established supplier and global market leader in broadband satellite communications systems technology. It has headquarters located in Montreal, Canada and among its remote offices is in the Middle East.
Can you share briefly about SpaceBridge’s position in the satcoms market?
We provide ground infrastructure for VSAT platforms, which enable satellite communication. It includes various directions such as point-to-point or point-to-multipoint. This delivers broadband internet access to people, telemedicine, cellular backhaul, and so on.
We have the ability to provide connection that brings people together and eliminates the digital divide. When no other means of communication reaches, satellite communication deployed almost instantly and give people reliable access to broadband connectivity.
What are the core product offerings within SpaceBridge’s portfolio, and what are your key goals for the upcoming years?
During the past two years, we have released many important features with the aim of improving performance and getting closer to customers. We provide the utmost efficiency in return channels, by introducing 5% roll off overall ModCods. We also provide 16QAM modulation format, as well as layer two and layer three connectivity to consumer terminals. These are used in many different applications including universal service obligation (USO), SIM route, and rural/cellular backhaul.
For the next two to three years, we have recently unveiled our next-generation platform — SatVers. This is a source of versatility for satellite applications, equipped with full-stack optimization, flexible architectures, and custom solutions. This system provides very wide offering, both in modems and the performance of the platform itself.
What is the significance of your presence in CABSAT 2022?
CABSAT is the best ground to meet our existing and potential customers from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. We establish a good connection, year over year, and we are looking to increase our presence further. Hence, being here, shows our commitment within the region and grows the footprint of our products.
How are you putting focus on sustainability?
Our system opens standards compliant. Therefore, we’re the only company that can provide backwards compatibility to modems and HABS as they were built from 2005, for instance.
You can take the modem from the old platforms and connect them to the existing platform and vice versa and they will still be working. This is because of the full compatibility achieved due to adherence of open standard architecture.
How do you plan to adapt and expand, considering the promising outlook of the satcoms market?
The way that the satcoms market develops very rapidly requires us to provide better, faster, and less expensive application solutions on different platforms. What used to be different platforms for different applications are becoming less and less appealing for our customers because the customer requirements change on a daily or weekly basis.
Having said that, we need to keep on adjusting our system to meet the demands of complex applications. We focus on retaining our customers by offering the highest possible availability and efficiency of our system.
We were also the first to pioneer a multi-service platform which can do multiple wave form simultaneously — both in the HAPS and return channels. Some terminals can work in multi-frequency TDMA waveform domain while some terminals can work in ASAT which works smoothly as frequency division multiplexing domain. Moreover, some terminals can put sustainable transmission in SCPC mode by fully optimizing performance, efficiency, lean budget, latency and jitter.
Overall, we offer sustainability of equipment and investment. Once you have invested in our platform, we can serve for multiple applications for many years to come.
